I spend my days crafting clever methodologies to get my point across in a training of some sort. Interactive games, activities, grouping exercises. A colleague told me that none of it matters - that training is old hat - that knowledge management is the new method of teaching new knowledge and skills.
In 2000, Dede Bonner wrote in her book, Leading Knowledge Management and Learning, there is "... a mindset of continuous learning stimulates employee performance and replaces the old paradigm of training. these changes are going to require that each organization develop its own unique knowledge and learning strategies….” Well, my colleague, who I suspect may actually even be right - couldn't even define knowledge management. We have a ways to go...
